Renewable energy surpasses coal for the first time: six charts reveal the shift in global energy production structure

The latest analysis based on Ember data shows that in 2025, renewable energy accounted for 34% of global electricity generation, surpassing coal's 33% for the first time. The share of fossil fuel power generation fell to 57%, while solar's share rose from 3% to 9% within five years. A sharp drop of over 99% in component costs was a key driver. The EU's renewable energy share has already reached 48%, leading the global transition.
